Ok, so i cant get back to sleep (Bastard mother) How about soaking up this about longboarding.
Many people i've heard Sliding as just 'putting your hands on the floor and doing that .. thing' well take that derogatory term and stick it where the sun dont shine!
OK lets start with the basics. (Sorry for any name variations, nobody has actually laied out the standard)
Backside slide - 2 handss in a 'pressup position' The most basic slide, but in Fab's case - the most stylish! Good for teaching trust in your hands/
Layback slide - 2 hands down lying back on the road, teaches you frontside leg control.
Frontside rail grab slide - I've never liked this, its doing a drop knee turn at speed basically, its Very stable and i've seen racers use it from 50 - 0 in about 100 meters!
Coleman slide - Forever the favorite slide, this is the basis to most slides, front hand on the floor, other hand wigglign in the air throwing your momentum to control the pendulum. Similar to Bert slides, also a front foot variation can be done, dropping your front knee below the board, thats difficult!
Spins
Frontside 360 - As simple as a coleman 180 into a switch backside 180, its hard to make this slide flow into a smooth 360, and also difficult to do the second 180 quickly at speed.
Backside 360 - Alot harder, its almost a backside 360 spin but one handing the last 180, you'll believe it when you see it.
Surrender slide - Thank Fab for this, best to set up with a F360, bring your hands around infront of the board then let the board roll around on the outside of your hands. Awesome swinging feeling - especially if your on a big board.
Frontside 3's and upwards - Back hand 180 then fronthand switch 180, just a repeating cycle, hard if your pads/wheels are too grippy
Back n' forth (Or yoyo as F calls it) F beat me too this, its spinning 360 then spinning back 360. Bah!
The complicated stuff
Frontside Manual Slides - Sliding frontside (in layback or coleman) Lifting the front wheels up and slamming the tail on the road, difficult to get out of.
Backside manual slides - Too easy, i never bothered with them and they look stupid!
One foot frontside manual slide - More complex, when your manal sliding the board, make sure your back foot is evenly spread over the points of contact of the tail and the wheel on the floor, and kick your front foot off, if your unlucky, the board will swing backwards cutting you a new hole.
Pretzel slide - Never tried this, going into cross step grabbing the back of the board and slide it out, mad.
Melon slide - Grab the board in melon, it gives perfect pendulums swinging over the road.
One foot (frontside) - Grab your board with your back hand kick your back foot out and slid it away!
Backside one hand - Learnt this the other night with Daf, it takes alot of balance, put your backhand on the road and slide backside, difficult not just to fall over!
Backside, frontside, what the hell is this slide! - Its going into a coleman slide, but reaching your other hand over your body onto the road, making your board go frontside but your body go backside. I dunno, ask the ass himself F!
Sergio slide - Instead of putting your front hand down for a coleman slide, put your back hand down and stretch your body out into a straight slide, never tried, looks STUPID! |

Cheers Kendall, if anyone needs any help on any of these slides just send a message. I love this Daddy shit.
(I'd recommend reading the Sliding article i wrote a while ago, but its very out dated and most of the techniques have been improved upon. Worth a read if your interested in taking up sliding anyhow.) |

I added in all the required Bolds, just in case you didn't notice, hah.
Good stuff there, though i'm wondering if it should be in the Trick Tip section, rather than Articles? |
