Owen Howells Production - Beats
& Pieces (Total Runtime = 29 minutes) |
 |
|
 |
First of all I’d like to thank Mr.Owen Howells
for his blatant generosity, and congratulations
for showing just what kind of talent Pembrokeshire
has to offer in the area of skateboarding. That’s
right people, it’s another amateur skateboarding
video, but with enough class to be aired on the
extreme channel.
The
actual video runtime rounds itself off at about
19 minutes long, but what it lacks in time it
more than makes up for with talent and over-all
video quality. The remaining 10 minutes of the
DVD features excess footage that simply didn’t
get added into the final movie, you will also
be able to view some of the footage from the previous
Owen Howells Production skateboarding DVD ‘Not
Another Scene Movie’, The original trailer,
a trailer for a new DVD “Horror” and
some good old fashioned photos, if they gave you
any more, you just wouldn’t have time to
skate. |
|
Being
filmed with 2 different types of camera (Panasonic
NV-MX500 and a Sony DCR-TRV25E for the night scenes),
you just know that someone’s going out of
their way to show you what they want you to see,
and for the added effect and true skate flick
tradition, a Raynox 0.3 X Pro Semi Fisheye was
given some front line action in this charge of
Skate-Production.
The
Video Itself:
Sticking mainly to the streets, you will see some
old-school bowl-riding from the likes of Jon
Pickford, and enough flip-sided magic
from Martin Jones to satisfy
whatever hunger you may desire, there would have
been some outrageous long-boarding, but our very
own Dave ‘Dog-boy’
Holden lost his gloves when it was time to slide.
There’s also a few sections of Vert, and
some mighty fine park skating.
Starting off with a bit of Smashing
Pumpkins to get you into the right gear, this
DVD also features some quality tunes from the
Chemical Brothers, Led Zepplin, RJD2, Sex Pistols,
Orbital, Billy Idol… and more.
In all skateboarding flicks there
will always be one little ripper that really makes
you think, and this movie holds no exception.
Sam Thompson, I’d guess
his age to be about 14 or 15 and that boy’s
got bigger balls than the jolly green giant, and
enough style to hold them together too.
All sections are professionally
edited in Adobe Premiere Pro, and there’s
even some frame-by-frame magic, all edited within
Jasc Paintshop Pro, the kind of magic that you
might see in a certain Girl video…
Local videos are often made for
the local people, featuring local spots, and containing
local humour, This DVD however, is not your ordinary
local skateboarding flick, for the 19 minutes
that it runs, you will witness a variety of locations
with more than enough tricks to complement them
and surprisingly enough the weather is actually
pretty decent!
The
Inevitable bails section:
Accidents do happen, and you’ll get to see
every single one them, showing you just how much
blood, sweat and tears (literally) have gone into
making this respectable DVD. |
